Large chlorine correction: Adding more than 5 ppm in a single dose can irritate eyes and skin. Split into multiple visits or shock at dusk when no one will swim for 8 or more hours.
Large pH correction: A pH swing of more than 0.6 units should be done in stages. Add acid in two to three doses spaced an hour apart with the pump running to avoid localized etching near the return jets.

What this pool chemical dosing calculator accounts for

Log chemical dosing per pool with Claver

Claver logs the chemicals added per pool per visit so the tech can see trends, flag pools that are consistently fighting algae or pH swings, and document the treatment history for warranty or liability purposes. When a pool needs a heavy correction, the prior visit log shows whether this is a one-off or a pattern.

Pool chemical dosing calculator -- frequently asked questions

How do I calculate pool chemical dosing?
Calculate the pool volume in gallons, then use the manufacturer's dosing chart or a standard formula to determine how much chemical is needed to move the level by 1 ppm. Multiply by the gap between current and target levels. Most residential pools need 13 ounces of liquid chlorine (12.5%) per 10,000 gallons to raise chlorine by 1 ppm.
Is this calculator really free?
Yes, the pool chemical dosing calculator is free with no signup, no credit card, and no data stored on a server, so the pool details and test readings stay on the device.
How do I calculate pool volume in gallons?
For a rectangular pool: length x width x average depth x 7.48. For an oval pool: length x width x average depth x 5.9. For a round pool: diameter x diameter x average depth x 5.9. You can also check the original pool build plans or the equipment room records, which usually show the designed volume.
