How do I calculate how much lawn treatment to buy?
Divide the lawn area in square feet by 1,000, then multiply by the product's application rate in ounces per 1,000 sq ft. That gives you total ounces needed. Then divide by the package size (in ounces) to find how many bags or jugs to buy, rounding up to the nearest whole number. This calculator does all three steps automatically -- just enter your lawn size, rate, and package size.
What is oz per 1,000 square feet?
Oz per 1,000 square feet is the standard unit lawn care product labels use to express application rate for liquid concentrates. It tells you how many fluid ounces of product to mix per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. For example, a rate of 1.5 oz/1,000 sq ft means you use 1.5 oz of concentrate for every 1,000 square feet you treat. Always check the product label -- rates vary by target pest, weed species, and lawn condition.
How many tank loads will my backpack sprayer need?
Divide the total lawn area by the area one full tank covers. A full tank covers: tank capacity in gallons divided by the water volume per 1,000 sq ft (gallons), multiplied by 1,000. For a 4-gallon backpack at 1 gallon per 1,000 sq ft, one tank covers 4,000 sq ft. A 5,000 sq ft lawn therefore needs 2 tank loads (ceiling of 5,000 divided by 4,000). This calculator computes tank loads automatically based on tank size and your water-per-1,000 setting.
What if I have product left over from last season?
Enter the number of packages you already have in the 'Packages on hand' field. The calculator subtracts that inventory from the total product needed before computing how many new packages to buy. If you have more on hand than the job requires, the 'Packages to buy' result will show 0. Always check stored product for shelf-life expiration dates -- most liquid concentrates are good for 2 to 4 years when stored in a cool, dark location.
