Basement waterproofing cost FAQ

Common questions about basement waterproofing pricing and methods.

How much does basement waterproofing cost?
Basement waterproofing costs vary widely by method and basement size. Interior drain tile systems average $5,000 to $15,000 for a typical home. Exterior excavation and membrane systems run $15,000 to $30,000 or more. Crack injection repairs cost $400 to $1,000 per crack. A sump pump installation alone averages $800 to $1,500. Many homeowners finance waterproofing work through contractor payment plans or home improvement loans.
What is the difference between interior and exterior basement waterproofing?
Exterior waterproofing excavates the soil around the foundation, applies a waterproof membrane to the outside of the wall, and installs drainage board and a footing drain. It stops water before it contacts the wall. Interior waterproofing installs a drain channel along the inside of the footing and channels water to a sump pump. Interior systems are less disruptive and cost less but manage water after it enters rather than preventing entry.
Is interior drain tile as effective as exterior waterproofing?
Interior drain tile is highly effective at keeping a basement dry. It captures water that seeps through the wall or floor and routes it to a sump pump before it can pool on the floor. Exterior systems are superior for walls that are deteriorating or where you want to stop water contact with the foundation material entirely. In most residential applications, interior drain tile plus a quality sump pump delivers a reliably dry basement.
How long does basement waterproofing last?
Interior drain tile systems installed by a reputable contractor typically carry a lifetime transferable warranty. The sump pump itself usually lasts 7 to 10 years and should be tested annually. Exterior membrane systems last 20 to 30 years or more if the drainage board stays intact. Crack injection repairs are permanent for structural cracks in poured concrete walls when done correctly.
Can Claver generate waterproofing proposals and collect e-signed contracts?
Yes. Claver lets waterproofing contractors build proposals from material and labor line items, add warranty language, and collect a digital signature from the homeowner. Signed contracts are stored with the customer record and can be accessed from any device.
