Phone and SMS built in, not bolted on

Claver does not integrate with a phone system. It is one. You get a business number, two-way texting, missed-call text-back, voicemail, and in-app calling inside the same app that holds the job. The long version lives on the phone system feature page.

What the phone stack includes, by plan

How to connect your phone number

There is no Twilio account to open and no SIP trunk to configure. Claver provisions the number for you and wires the webhooks.

  1. Open Settings, then the Phone tab. On Starter the tab is locked, because texting starts on Crew.
  2. Enter the area code you want. Claver searches available US local numbers in that area code.
  3. Click Set Up Phone Number. The number is provisioned to your account and its call and text webhooks are pinned to your workspace automatically.
  4. Register for A2P 10DLC. US carriers require business texting to be registered. Claver walks the brand and campaign registration for you and reports the status as it clears.
  5. Set your missed-call text and after-hours behavior. Write the text a missed caller receives, and choose whether after-hours calls forward or go to voicemail.

Why it matters that it is not an integration

When the phone lives in another app, the call and the job never meet. Claver puts the number, the text thread, the voicemail, and the recording on the customer record, so the person picking up already sees the history. That is the whole argument, and the phone system page makes it in full with the plan-by-plan detail.

Consent and compliance

Texting is opt-out aware and fails closed, so a customer who opts out will not be messaged again by an automation. Call recording plays a consent announcement before it starts. A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration is part of setup rather than an afterthought, because unregistered traffic is what gets a small shop filtered by carriers.

Which plan you need

Texting and missed-call text-back start on Crew at $39/mo. The phone line, in-app calling, IVR, voicemail, recording, and the AI receptionist are Business at $79/mo. Starter at $19/mo has no SMS or calling. Compare the tiers on the pricing page.

Phone and SMS FAQ

Do I need a Twilio account to use Claver phone features?
No. Claver provisions the number and wires the call and text webhooks for you. You pick an area code in Settings under the Phone tab, click Set Up Phone Number, and the line is live on your workspace. There is no separate carrier account to open, no SIP trunk to configure, and no second bill to reconcile at the end of the month.
Which plan includes texting and calling?
Two-way SMS and MMS and missed-call text-back start on Crew at $39/mo, with 150 messages a month included and 2.9 cents per message after that. The business phone number, in-app calling, the IVR menu, the voicemail inbox with transcription, inbound call recording, and the AI receptionist are on Business at $79/mo, with 150 calling minutes and 150 AI minutes included. Starter at $19/mo has no SMS or calling.
Does Claver handle A2P 10DLC registration?
Yes. US carriers require business texting traffic to be registered, and unregistered traffic is exactly what gets filtered or blocked. Claver walks the brand and campaign registration during phone setup and reports the status back to you as each stage clears, so you are not filing forms with a carrier registry yourself.
Is the AI receptionist available today?
Partly, and it is worth being precise. The AI voice agent that answers, qualifies, and books is built and runs on the Business plan. The after-hours setting that routes overflow calls to it is still labeled coming soon in the app, so after-hours calls fall to voicemail with transcription for now. Do not buy Business on the promise of unattended after-hours AI booking until that switch is live.
