Best handyman software and apps in 2026

The best handyman software depends on how you work. Joist ($10/mo) and QuoteIQ ($29.99/mo) suit fast on-site quotes for a solo operator, Markate ($49.95/mo plus $5 per employee) bundles leads with scheduling, Jobber and Housecall Pro are broader all-in-one apps with native mobile apps, ServiceM8 has a free plan for one user, and Claver includes 2, 8 or 20 users in one flat price from $19/mo.

Claver makes this page, and Claver is one of the options. Competitor prices come from each company's own pricing page, checked September 27, 2026.

What is the best handyman software?

No single app fits every handyman business. A solo operator who just needs fast quotes has different needs than someone running a small crew with a schedule to manage. The table puts seven options side by side on price, users and the real tradeoff.

How we compared these tools

We compared published prices, plan limits and features on each vendor's own site on September 27, 2026. We did not test the apps hands-on or survey their users, so nothing here ranks tools on ease of use or support. Where a company publishes no price, we say so instead of estimating one.

The seven tools are ones handyman businesses often weigh against each other, from estimate-only apps to full scheduling platforms. Each profile below uses the vendor's own plan names and descriptions. Claver's plan details come from Claver's own product.

What does each handyman app offer?

Each profile covers what the tool is, who it suits, what it costs and one real tradeoff. Every price is the vendor's own published figure.

Claver

Claver is field service software for small home-service businesses: scheduling, quotes, invoicing, payments and customer texting, with users included in one flat monthly price. Starter is $19/mo for 2 users, Crew $39/mo for 8 and Business $79/mo for 20, month-to-month. Starter includes online booking with live pricing, a customer portal, quotes, invoicing, card payments and recurring plans that customers can sign up for on their own. Crew adds dispatch, two-way texting, GPS tracking, route optimization and QuickBooks Online sync. Business adds a built-in phone system and an AI receptionist.

Tradeoff: Native iOS and Android apps and Tap to Pay are coming soon; today Claver is a web app you install from the browser. It is a newer product with a smaller integration list than Jobber or Housecall Pro, and there is no free plan: it is $1 for 14 days, then $19/mo. The AI receptionist is on Business only, and it takes booking requests for you to confirm rather than booking on its own.

Jobber

Jobber is an all-in-one app for home service pros to book, quote, invoice and grow, with plans from one user up to teams. Core is $49/mo for one user month-to-month, or $29/mo billed annually. Team plans are priced by team size: Connect for up to 5 users is $199/mo ($149/mo billed annually). Online booking and a client hub are on every plan, it has native iOS and Android apps, and you can try it free without a card.

Tradeoff: Many features sit above Core. GPS tracking, routing, automated client notifications and QuickBooks Online sync start on Connect, and two-way texting and job costing start on Grow. The AI Receptionist is a $29/mo add-on.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro is an all-in-one platform for residential and commercial pros. Its pricing page runs you through a quiz about your trade and team size before showing prices; for a one-person team it lists Basic at $79/mo, with online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates and invoicing. Essentials ($229/mo for one user) adds job costing, membership plans and QuickBooks Online sync, and Max ($349/mo) adds route optimization. It has a free mobile app for iOS and Android and a 14-day free trial with no card.

Tradeoff: Team plans start at $299/mo for 5 users on Essentials, and each extra user adds $100/mo. Max for teams is $649/mo for 8 users, plus $75/mo per extra user. AI call answering is a separate add-on.

Markate

Markate is a single Owner Operator plan at $49.95/mo ($39.95/mo billed annually) that includes its full feature list: lead and opportunity pipeline, a drag-and-drop calendar, estimate-to-work-order-to-invoice flow, online payments and QuickBooks integration. Adding a team member costs a flat $5 per employee per month on top of the base price. It offers a 14-day free trial with no card and free data migration.

Tradeoff: There is no cheaper starter tier: every feature sits on the one plan, so a solo handyman pays the same $49.95/mo base price as a small crew (before the per-employee add-on).

Joist

Joist is built around estimates and invoices for individual contractors. Basics is $10/mo for up to 5 documents a month; Pro ($17/mo) adds unlimited documents and clients; Elite ($32/mo) adds license and insurance display, change orders and business reporting; Run ($100/mo, introductory pricing) adds job scheduling and linking jobs to estimates. Every tier has a 14-day free trial with no card.

Tradeoff: Joist is not built for multi-person scheduling: that only shows up on the $100/mo Run plan, and there is no per-user pricing since it is designed around a single contractor's documents and clients.

ServiceM8

ServiceM8 has a free plan for one user and 30 jobs a month. Paid plans start at $29/mo (Starter, 50 jobs) and rise to $79/mo (Growing, 150 jobs) and $149/mo (Premium, 500 jobs), each with unlimited users. Scheduling, quoting, invoicing, online bookings and card payments are on every plan, and it offers a 14-day free trial with no card.

Tradeoff: Price follows job volume, so a busy shop pays more as jobs grow, and texts over each plan's monthly cap cost extra.

QuoteIQ

QuoteIQ is home service software with quoting, a measuring tool (MapMeasure Pro) and AI tools built in. Essentials is $29.99/mo for one user, Beginner $74.99/mo for 2 users, Pro $149.99/mo for 4 and Elite $299/mo for 10. It charges no per-user fees and offers a 14-day free trial.

Tradeoff: Adding people means moving up a whole plan, and AI features draw on monthly credits that reset each cycle and don't roll over.

Which handyman software should you choose?

Choose based on whether you mainly need to quote and invoice, or whether you also need to schedule a crew and dispatch jobs. Price by what you do most, not by the most feature-heavy app on the list.

  • Solo, quotes and invoices only. Joist Basics ($10/mo, 5 documents a month) or QuoteIQ Essentials ($29.99/mo) cover fast on-site estimates without paying for scheduling you don't use.
  • Solo, want scheduling too. ServiceM8's free plan works under 30 jobs a month. Claver Starter ($19/mo, 2 users) and Jobber Core ($49/mo, or $29/mo billed annually) add booking and a customer portal.
  • One owner plus a helper or two. Claver Crew is $39/mo for 8 users. Markate is $49.95/mo for the base plan plus $5 per added employee. Housecall Pro Basic is still priced per single user at $79/mo.
  • Growing crew, 5 to 20 people. Claver Business is $79/mo for 20 users. Jobber Connect for up to 5 users is $199/mo ($149/mo billed annually), and Housecall Pro Essentials for 5 is $299/mo.
  • Leads matter as much as jobs. Markate includes a lead and opportunity pipeline in its base price. Claver Business adds an AI receptionist that files booking requests for you to confirm.

What should a handyman business look for in software?

Handyman work is a mix of small, varied jobs, so the app needs to make quoting and invoicing fast without forcing you to pay for scheduling tools you may not need yet.

  • Speed of quoting on-site. Since handyman jobs are often quoted in the customer's driveway, look at how many taps it takes to build and send an estimate, and whether it converts straight to an invoice.
  • How it charges for users. Some tools price by user or team size (Jobber, Housecall Pro), some include a set number of users in each plan (Claver, QuoteIQ), Markate charges a flat per-employee add-on, and ServiceM8 charges by jobs per month. Price your team as it will be a year from now.
  • Document limits. Entry-level plans sometimes cap how many quotes or invoices you can send a month (Joist Basics caps at 5). Check the cap against how many jobs you quote in a month.
  • Online booking and payments. Online booking and payment links let customers book and pay without a phone call. Check whether the booking form shows real prices and open times.
  • Whether you need dispatch at all. A true solo operator may never need a dispatch board or GPS tracking. Don't pay for a Crew or team tier until you have a crew to put on it.
  • Getting your data out. Make sure you can export customers, jobs and invoices as CSV files if you switch tools later. Our guide on how to switch field service software walks through the move.

Handyman software FAQ

What is the best handyman software?
It depends on how you work. Joist and QuoteIQ are built around fast quotes for owner-operators. Markate bundles leads, scheduling and invoicing for a flat $49.95/mo plus $5 per employee. Jobber and Housecall Pro are broader all-in-one apps with native mobile apps. Claver includes 2, 8 or 20 users in one flat price starting at $19/mo. Compare the plan that covers your team size and the jobs you run.
Is there a good free app for a handyman business?
ServiceM8 has a genuine free plan for one user and up to 30 jobs a month. Every other tool in this guide runs on a paid plan after a free trial: 14 days for Housecall Pro, Markate, Joist, ServiceM8 and QuoteIQ. Claver has no free plan; it is $1 for 14 days, then $19/mo. If you do fewer than 30 jobs a month, ServiceM8's free tier is the only truly free option here.
How much does handyman scheduling software cost?
Entry prices run from free (ServiceM8, one user) to $79/mo (Housecall Pro Basic, one user). Claver starts at $19/mo, Joist Basics at $10/mo, QuoteIQ Essentials at $29.99/mo, Markate at $49.95/mo plus $5 per employee, and Jobber Core at $49/mo ($29/mo billed annually). Housecall Pro's prices come from a short quiz about your trade and team size; these figures are its result for a one-person team.
What is the best handyman estimating software?
Joist and QuoteIQ are built specifically around estimates: Joist starts at $10/mo for up to 5 documents a month, and QuoteIQ starts at $29.99/mo with a built-in measuring tool and AI credits. Markate and Jobber fold estimating into a broader job-management platform. If quoting fast on-site is your main need, start with Joist or QuoteIQ; if you also need scheduling and dispatch, look at Markate, Jobber or Claver instead.
Do I need an app just for handyman work, or will general field service software do?
No tool in this guide is handyman-only in the way Garage Door Matrix is built only for garage door shops. Joist and QuoteIQ suit one-person estimate-and-invoice workflows well. General field service apps such as Jobber, Housecall Pro and Claver add scheduling, dispatch and a customer portal, which matter once you have jobs to juggle or a second person on the truck.
Which handyman software doesn't charge per user?
ServiceM8's paid plans include unlimited users and charge by jobs per month instead. Claver includes 2, 8 or 20 users in flat plans of $19, $39 and $79 a month. QuoteIQ has no per-user add-on fee, but adding people means moving up a whole plan. Markate charges a flat $5 per employee on top of its base plan. Jobber and Housecall Pro price by team size or per extra seat.
Is Jobber worth it for a one-person handyman business?
Jobber Core is $49/mo for one user ($29/mo billed annually) and includes online booking, a client hub and native iOS and Android apps. That is more than Joist ($10/mo), QuoteIQ ($29.99/mo) or Claver ($19/mo) charge to start. Jobber is worth it if you want its specific booking and client-hub workflow; if you mainly need quotes and invoices, a cheaper tool covers the same ground for less.
How do I switch handyman software without losing my customer list?
Export your customers, jobs and invoices as CSV files from your current tool before you cancel. Import them into the new tool and run both side by side until open jobs and invoices are settled. Check your contract for a minimum term first. Claver's import wizard reads CSV exports from Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan and QuickBooks.
